Ain’t
God Grand!
None of us like to receive notification that someone is not coming to
an event we have planned. There is disappointment and frustration when
dinner guests call and cancel or when you hear someone will be out of town
during your special planned event. But when we get a call at Trinity Pines
of a cancellation, that means one thing – lost revenue. We got such a call
a few days ago and immediately knew that was a $3000 loss in income we had
anticipated. However – Ain’t God Grand! Within just a few days,
we got a call from another rental group that was with us last week –
Special Olympics. The call was something like this “Can your kitchen staff
prepare 500 sack lunches for our participants?
We know that’s a lot, but we are in a pinch and really need the
help. We will pay you
$6.00/lunch.” If I figure right – 500 lunches at $6.00/each is $3000. Ain’t
God Grand!
Summer
2007 will be a special summer for over 200 Intermountain District Teens who
will attend the National Youth Congress (NYC) sponsored by the Church of the
Nazarene. The total cost to attend this year’s Congress is $1450, and
several families have more than one member attending. Many of you know the
Congress is held only once every four years. Both of our girls attended and
indeed it was an opportunity of a lifetime for them to see the worldwide
perspective of the Church of the Nazarene.
This
is our challenge. Each summer we have NYC, we see parents oftentimes faced
with financial burden and the forced decision of not sending the teen to
summer camp because of the financial costs related to NYC. We know that
students need to experience both events to help them in their growth as
young Christians. The perspective of the world and the District church is
important in the life of a teenage.
We
are looking for 125 partners who will send $75 clearly marked “2007 Camp
Scholarship” to the District Office (P.O. Box 1159, Nampa, ID
83653). The Camps Board will maintain these funds and then
scholarships in the amount of $75 will be awarded to deserving NYC students
to allow them to attend summer camp at Trinity Pines. Let me ask those of
you reading this – do you remember how excited your teen was when they
returned from their NYC experience? I do for both Kendra and Kyra.
Dorita and I will be writing a check for $150 for scholarships in
honor of our daughters’ experience at NYC.
NYC
students will be asked to write a letter explaining their need for the
scholarship. Our goal is to have as many NYC students as possible attend
summer camp along with their NYC experience. If you had a member of your
family experience NYC in the past, then please join us in supporting a $75
scholarship in honor of those family members so that a young person on our
district can experience summer camp 2007. Thank you for your support.
Did
You Miss Us in February?
We
selected not to publish a Camp Monthly in February in an attempt to hold
down more costs related to camp operations. We know that can also have a
negative impact on giving if people are not hearing from us during the month
about progress at the camp. Thanks for being understanding on this issue. We
are doing the best we can to manage funds with some financial challenges. We
have been blessed with strong rentals in February and anticipate good
participation in March. We are looking at a new format for our Camp Monthly.
Stay tuned as we work through some image ideas for promoting our camping
program.
Trinity
Pines Guest Services Position Available
The
Guest Services Coordinator will assist the Manager in delivering the Trinity
Pines Program to retreats and camps. This
program strives to provide clean, safe facilities and recreational
activities as well as excellent food service to guests who utilize Trinity
Pines Camp and Conference Center, Ministry of the Intermountain District.
Applications
due by April 15, 2007. Send
resumé, and letter of application, or other inquiries to Mike Crevelt at
Trinity Pines. You do not need to be Nazarene to apply.
Climbing
Wall
We
have started on our climbing wall for younger campers at Trinity Pines. Mike
Crevelt indicates that we need approximately $6000 to complete the project
and some additional manpower during the Work Week this spring. If your
church would like to take on this project, please contact Rick Waitley and
let us know.
2007
Work Week: May 30-June 3
Please
make plans to be with us at Trinity Pines for Work Week 2007. We have many
projects on the drawing board and can use a crew of 75-125 each day to help
us accomplish our tasks. Mark these dates on your calendar. It is a great way to work
off the winter weight before you head into the summer. We will help you
stretch muscles, sweat, and give you a decent cardiovascular workout –
guaranteed to include great food, fellowship and a blister along the way!
Work-A-Day
Success
We
are still receiving pledges and payments towards Work a Day 2007. We have
over $17,700 pledged and paid at this time. If you are still waiting to pay
your pledge, you have until March 31, 2007 to get the payment into this
fiscal year of camp operations. Thank you for the faithful support of so
many of our partners on this special project related to camp operations.
2007
Summer Camps
All
of our 2006 campers were mailed camp registration materials directly to
their homes in February, and churches were mailed camp posters and order
forms for brochures. April 1 is the deadline for Early Bird Registration.
The fee prior to April 1 will be the camp fee from 2006 season. After April
1 the fee will increase. This year, you can find a registration form not
only in the local churches, but also online at www.tpines.org and you may
pay by credit card – Visa or MasterCard.

On
March 1 we had an accumulation of about 3’ of snow at camp. The month of
January was very dry, but mid-way through February the moisture began to
fall. What a beautiful site for our visitors as they were met with the
mounds of fresh white snow to add to their Trinity Pines experience. We are
thankful for the moisture.

and support. Applications are due by April 15.
Closing
Thoughts
After
we pass March 1, my heart rate always begins to increase with anticipation
of summer camps at Trinity Pines. This past Thursday, we met with Camp
Directors for our monthly planning time. I was so inspired by the creative
spirit of these people and their ideas, plans and goals for each of their
camps. Christmas in July, Gladiators, Living on the Edge,
Winter Wonderland in the Summer were all ideas discussed and thrown
around. We discussed a top quality list of speakers, musicians, and great
ideas for involvement of our campers . Every member of your congregation
from 1st through 12th grade needs to be at summer camp
this year. Please help to make that happen – I can guarantee you will see
the results.

Waitley, Executive Camp Director
